Adult Education Activities (2016)

Loving Our Neighbors, Near and FarPreparing cards

Throughout February and March, we held adult education forums focused on one of Hope’s Core Values, “Loving Our Neighbors, Near and Far.” After worship, we learned about and practiced this value. We learned about Lutheran Volunteer Corps and Young Adults in Global Mission as people shared their experiences with these faith-based service programs. We made beautiful cards to mail to people who may be isolated or lonely. We discussed the Gospel According to Luke and how Jesus invites us into relationship with our neighbors. The theme also wove throughout Sunday morning worship and Wednesday evening prayer.

United Nations: Sustainable Development Goals

IMG 2548 editedIn four adult education forums in July and August, Pastors Richard Hoehn and Michael Kuchinsky presented educational sessions, sharing and teaching about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the spirituality of caring for the world.

Other Adult Education Activities/Bible Studies

Hope held two Scripture Mini-Retreats in 2016--events where we gathered on a Saturday morning to read through an entire book of the Bible together. We read the Gospel According to Luke, followed several months later by the Book of Acts.

In September, we met for a session about contemplative prayer by way of introduction to a series about contemplative prayer offered in the fall at University Baptist Church.

For many weeks, we held a midweek lunchtime Bible studies focusing on Tricky Parables, Lectionary texts, Call Stories, and Generosity. We also held a three-week evening Bible study series with Pastor Beth Platz, focused on Jesus, $, and Stuff.
